Volvo EVs to go Vegan

2025 is going to be a big year for the car industry, with so many manufacturers implementing big changes over the next few years. Volvo is one of those. The Swedish brand aim to compose their interiors of at least 25% bio-based/renewable materials. Additionally, they want their immediate suppliers to solely rely on renewable energy come 2025.

And if you think these new materials will be the death of Volvo’s Scandinavian style then take a look at these sneakers. Typical of the brand, don’t you think?

Volvo’s EVs will feature vegan leather and recycled materials

Volvo believes that sustainability goes beyond carbon emissions and should include materials as well. As such, their EVs will feature leather free interiors. Instead, customers will get the opportunity to choose from a selection of bio-based alternatives. One of those is Volvo’s famous Nordico, made from recycled plastic bottles. You can also have reused corks from wine bottles!

Alternatively, wool-blend materials will still be available with traceable sources adhering to animal welfare regulations.

Volvo’s mission goes far beyond just using smarter materials, they also want to be more intelligent about how they use them. This includes less residual waste in the production of upholstery, rubbers, adhesives and other products that feature in their manufacturing processes.

They acknowledge that they are undertaking a big challenge but Volvo are confident in their ability to find the answers. The ultimate goal is for the company to uphold its strong ethics and reduce demand for animal products.
