Rewind all the way back to 2019 when Elon Musk announced his ambition to do two things. Launch the CyberTruck and dethrone Porsche’s Taycan EV from the Nurburgring record books. Today, the Tesla Model S Plaid has just taken the title off the Taycan.
Musk tweeted the official lap time earlier today which was 12 seconds faster than that of the Taycan! The two times listed above, ‘7:30’ and ‘7:35’ show that the Model S Plaid managed to set the records for both circuit configurations at the Nurburgring.
The car that lapped the ring in the record time was a factory spec Model S Plaid. However, Tesla plans to return to the infamous track with a beefed up Plaid which is predicted to include carbon brakes, track tires and better aero.
