It’s been quite a year for Skoda as the brand celebrated 30 years of the Octavia earlier on and now, 25 years of the Superb. That’s right, the big Skoda has been a part of the brand’s lineup for a quarter of a century! Curiously though, the name first appeared in Skoda’s vocabulary back in 1934 when the 640 was given said nickname.
The revived Superb’s debut in 2001 saw Skoda return to the mid-size category after a 50 year absence and in the 25 years that has since passed, comfort, space and technology have all become Superb staples. Now in its fourth generation, Superb is more versatile than ever with liftback and Combi (estate) body styles available along with diesel, petrol, mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrain options on offer!
Arguably, versatility is a key reason why the Superb has notched over 1.8 million deliveries to date and has contributed to the Czech brand’s growth internationally. Superb has also helped Skoda cement its position among private and fleet buyers with the model being the preferred vehicle of choice for many public services across the globe including our own New Zealand Police Force!
