The new Lotus Eletre hyper-SUV has been crowned GQ magazine’s ‘SUV of The Year’ at GQ’s latest ‘Car of The Year’ awards. The decision comes from GQ’s panel of design, lifestyle and automotive experts and honours cars that are “inspiring, interesting, have automotive integrity and get the pulse racing”.

Eletre is not only Lotus’ first SUV but also the brand’s first EV in their 75 year history! Marking the start of a new chapter, the newcomer was up against stiff competition from more established SUV manufacturers. However, GQ’s judges were extremely impressed by the Lotus, going on to say this: “The premium electric SUV sector is filling up faster than you can say recession-proof with all the automotive big beasts vying for attention, but none have grabbed ours like Lotus”.

Set to hit the roads later this year, Lotus has already received thousands of orders globally. Three different versions are available, the Eletre, Eletre S and Eletre R with two powertrains on offer. The top spec R model boasts 905bhp and 985Nm of toque, resulting in a 0-100 time of 2.95 seconds! And yes, it is the world’s fasts pure electric dual motor SUV. Max range has so far been set at 304 miles from the 112kWhr battery. It’s not all performance either because the interior boasts four zones climate control, 15 or 23-speaker KEF audio system with Dolby Atmos and Lotus’ Hyper OS infotainment!

Prices start from 89,500 GBP in the UK.
