IWC Adds Pool-Coloured Dial to the Ingenieur Automatic 35 Collection

IWC Schaffhausen has introduced a new version of the Ingenieur Automatic 35 (Ref. IW324902) featuring a dial in a colour the brand calls Pool. The shade is described as a fresh, aquatic tone, and it arrives as the latest addition to a compact collection that has grown steadily since the 35mm case size was first introduced.

A Genta Design, Revisited Again

The Ingenieur’s lineage traces back to 1976, when designer Gérald Genta created the Ingenieur SL (Reference 1832), a watch that helped define the integrated-bracelet luxury sports category. IWC revived that design language in 2023 with the Ingenieur Automatic 40, re-engineering the original’s proportions and finishing to contemporary standards.

The 35mm variant followed as a more compact option, targeting wrists that find the 40mm case a touch large. The Pool dial is the newest chapter in that story, and it works with the same stainless steel case and integrated bracelet architecture that defines the line.

What the Pool Dial Actually Looks Like

The dial carries the Ingenieur’s signature Grid pattern, a fine arrangement of lines and squares that adds visual depth without cluttering the surface. Rhodium-plated hands and applied indices filled with Super-LumiNova provide contrast and low-light legibility.

The case and bezel combine satin-finished and polished surfaces, while the bracelet’s centre links are polished against satin-finished H-links. It is the kind of considered finishing detail that separates a well-executed sports watch from one that merely looks the part. A sapphire crystal case back reveals the Calibre 47110, an automatic movement with a 42-hour power reserve, decorated with circular graining and Geneva stripes.

The bezel is secured to the case ring by five functional screws (a defining visual code of the Ingenieur) and the bracelet attaches via the middle links for a comfortable, supple fit.

Six References and Counting

The Pool variant joins a 35mm collection that now spans six models. The original line comprised a silver-plated dial (Ref. IW324901), a black dial (Ref. IW324906), and an 18-karat 5N gold version with a gold-coloured dial (Ref. IW324903). At Watches and Wonders in Geneva earlier this year, IWC added a deep blue dial (Ref. IW324907) and a diamond-set 18-karat 5N gold bezel variant (Ref. IW324911).

The Pool reference completes that trio of new additions, giving the 35mm collection a broader range of character, from the understated silver and black options through to the more expressive blue and now aquatic-toned dials.

Why It Matters

Dial colour expansions can seem incremental, but in the integrated-bracelet sports watch segment they carry real commercial weight. The 35mm case already broadens the Ingenieur’s appeal beyond the traditional male-skewing sports watch buyer. A vibrant, summer-ready colour like Pool extends that reach further still, without requiring any structural change to a design that has clearly found its footing.

For a collection that only relaunched in 2023, six references in three years suggests IWC is treating the Ingenieur as a long-term pillar rather than a limited revival. The Pool dial is a small move, but it points in a clear direction.
