The Leapmotor B03X is the latest all-electric crossover to join the brand’s expanding line up, and if the buzz at the launch is anything to go by, it’s here to make some serious noise.
When introducing the B03X, local distributors ADHL’s message was clear, “Excellence within reach.” It’s a bold tagline about this value packed offering, but when you peel back the layers of this compact SUV, it starts to make a lot of sense.

The ‘Three Pillars’ Philosophy
Leapmotor isn’t your typical legacy automaker. Born from a tech-component background (Dahua), they’ve approached car manufacturing with the mindset of a software company. The B03X is built on three core pillars, it’s compact for the city, practical for the daily grind, and tech-centric to its core.

At 4.2 meters long, it’s a city-dweller’s dream, easy to park, nimble in traffic, and perfectly sized for the urban jungle. But don’t let the compact label fool you. Thanks to a clever ‘cell-to-chassis’ design, the battery is integrated low into the structure, which frees up a surprising amount of interior real estate. We’re talking 947mm of rear legroom and a total boot capacity of 510 litres.

And when it comes to space, the Leapmotor B03X has a variety of party tricks including a ‘Giga-Box’, a 105-litre storage compartment plus a “Magic Seats” system (isn’t that a Honda thing?), which allows the rear bench to lift for taller items. Combined you’ve got a level of versatility that punches well above its weight class.
Tech That Actually Evolves

In the past, buying a car meant the tech you drove off the lot with was the tech you were stuck with. Leapmotor is flipping that script, (they are a tech company after all) and the Leapmotor B03X comes with Over-the-Air (OTA) updates.

The car runs on the OS 4.0+ platform, featuring a 14.6-inch screen, AI-powered voice assistance, and standard, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Basically it’s a smartphone-like experience on four wheels, backed by a Level 2 autonomous driver assistance system that uses 14 sensors and cameras to keep you safe. Impressed yet?
The Lineup and the Price
For the New Zealand market, Leapmotor are keeping things straightforward with two distinct trim levels: the Life and the Design.
The Leapmotor B03X Life (Base Model): Starting at $37,990 + ORC, this is your entry point. It’s powered by a 39.8 kWh battery and delivers up to 145 kW of power. It’s a punchy, efficient package that makes the jump to electric motoring feel like a no-brainer.
The Leapmotor B03X Design (High-Spec model): Stepping up to $42,990 + ORC gets you the larger 53 kWh battery, pushing your WLTP range up to the 380km mark. You also get a few more creature comforts, including eco-leather seating (available in black or a rather stylish oat grey).

Tarmac Takeaway
It’s early days for the Leapmotor B03X here, and the units we saw were pre-production models (NZ models arrive late September), but the intent is clear. Leapmotor is leveraging the global muscle of Stellantis to bring a high-tech, highly-practical EV to New Zealand at a price point that genuinely challenges the status quo.

Whether it’s the “Seaweed Green” paint job (which looks surprisingly nicer than it sounds) or the sheer utility of that Giga-Box, the Leapmotor B03X feels like a car designed for the way we actually live.
We’re looking forward to getting behind the wheel for a proper test drive soon. Stay tuned.
