The automotive world brings plenty of new metal to the iconic Goodwood Festival of Speed and Maserati are the latest to do so. The Ghibli 334 Ultima and Levante Ultima made their respective debuts at this year’s iteration but there’s a twist. The two cars are farewell tributes to the iconic Maserati V8.

The loss of this engine does genuinely bring a tear to my eye, widely regarding as one of the best sounding engines in motoring history, this is one that will sorely be missed. The “House of Trident” has sold more than 100,000 V8 powered cars since the engine first featured in the Maserati 5000GT, dating back to 1959.

To mark the end of production, Maserati have gone all out and added two turbos to the V8 for a 572bhp powerplant! The Ghibli 334 Ultima is rather special too because 334 is its top speed in kph, making it the fastest internal combustion sedan in the world! And yes, Maserati sent it up the famous hill at Goodwood.

To accompany the Ghibli, Maserati also sent the new GranTurismo Trofeo up the hill. Powered by the 546hp Nettuno V6 engine, featuring a pre-chamber combustion system and twin spark plugs, a technology derived from Formula 1!

Also on display at the Maserati area was a special GranTurismo Prisma. The one off car was joined by the electric GranTurismo Folgore while the Grecale Folgore found a spot at the Festival’s Electric Avenue. A ‘Rosso Vincente’ version of the MC20 Cielo was also floating around during the four day event!
