Hyundai NZ Reveals More About the IONIQ 5

The IONIQ 5 small SUV is Hyundai’s first addition to their IONIQ range of EVs. The sub-brand will feature cars built on Hyundai’s dedicated Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). The highlights of E-GMP include a longer wheelbase, eco-friendly interior along with electrifying performance. Not to forget the safety aspect as well.

The Details

So far we know that the IONIQ 5 will be available in two main configurations with either a 58kWh or 72.6kWh battery on offer. Additionally, you can have a single motor at the rear or a dual motor set-up with one at each axle. Both configurations will offer a class leading range and a limited top speed of 185 kph.

The range topping AWD 72.6kWh option is set to put out a mammoth 605Nm of torque along with 225kWh of power. Predictably with that sort of power, the IONIQ 5 will have a 0-100 time of 5.2 seconds! It’s not just quick either, the range topping 2WD option has a WLTP range of 480km. Prices start at $79,990 for the 58kWh option but with the government’s newly released EV subsidy, that takes a whopping $8,625 off the retail price.

Totally, Hyundai have 7 models on sale that are eligible for the government’s Clean Car Discount Program including the best selling Kona Electric Series 2!

The IONIQ 5 will make an appearance at Fieldays this weekend!
