The world’s largest video streaming platform, YouTube, has become the latest app to be added to Audi’s infotainment system. Available on select models and downloadable via a new app store, this is big news for the famous Audi MMI unit!
Developed with Volkswagen’s software partner CARIAD and working with HARMAN Ignite, the new app store allows customers to use their favourite apps in their vehicles without their phone! Provided apps include music, video, gaming, navigation, parking, charging, productivity, weather and the news! Especially handy for keeping passengers occupied during charging stops.
Crucially, videos can only be played when the vehicle is parked, nice work Audi! The end goal with this project is for the car to become a “smart companion” for users. Meaning you can watch your favourite YouTubers like Tarmac Life and get updated on the news in your Audi! Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will still continue to be provided though so there are still plenty of connectivity options for Audi owners.
Available from the 2024 model year, the new hardware and software will be offered on the Audi A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, Q5, Q8 e-tron and e-tron GT quattro! The project will start off with Europe with Canada and the USA next on the list before the service reaches the rest of the world.
