2025 Audi A3 Facelift review – Sporty, Style and Substance

The Audi A3 has come a long way since its debut in 1996. Over the years, it has evolved from a three-door hatch to a full range of variants including the A3, S3, RS3, and various powertrains. The 2025 fourth-generation A3 facelift carries the torch forward with a sharper design, upgraded tech, and a more refined driving experience.

In fact, the 2025 A3 facelift isn’t just a refresh, it’s more of an evolution. The changes focus on a more aggressive, modern look, a driver-focused interior, and tech that improves usability without overwhelming you. With its sporty performance, space and practicality, the A3 now sits comfortably between a hatch and dare I say it, a compact crossover (without the increased ride height of course).

Up front, Audi has given the new A3 a flatter, wider hexagonal grille, flanked by angular side air intakes that lend the car a more assertive stance. The headlights are narrower, boasting 24 pixels that can be personalised, giving the car a unique visual identity. What’s more, the front spoiler adds a lower, sportier look, making the car appear more aggressive while maintaining its compact form.

The side profile features a strong character line that runs the length of the car, giving it a sleek and dynamic appearance, and the Audi Sport puddle lights are a welcome sight at night. Sitting on (in my case) 19-inch wheels, the A3 maintains a balanced, sporty look without feeling overdone – however, the alloys come with thin Potenza rubber which does transfer a lot of road noise into the cabin. At the rear, Audi has introduced a new bumper and diffuser, enhancing the car’s road presence. Interestingly, the S-Line models take design inspiration from the more performance-oriented RS models, ensuring the A3 stands out even in its lower trims.

Inside, the A3 benefits from a more refined cabin with better materials and a sharper design. The new chrome accents and the so-called “blade design” elevate the interior, making it feel more premium. The layout has been revamped for a more driver-centric experience too, with the instrument cowl having a cockpit feel, and its fully-digital set up ensures all key information is in easy view. Additionally, the A3 comes equipped with a sporty three-spoke steering wheel, which adds to the overall driving experience and gives the cabin a more dynamic feel.

The A3 has also made significant strides in the tech department, making it even more user-friendly. The updated infotainment system features a simple interface with minimal distractions, allowing drivers to access everything from navigation to media controls effortlessly. One-touch capabilities make it easy to control the car’s key features without having to fumble through menus, (but it does attract fingerprints).

As if this wasn’t enough, the sportshatch boasts a comprehensive safety suite, including advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) that enhance both safety and convenience. Features like intuitive braking that adjusts to the car ahead ensure a smoother, more relaxed drive, while still providing the necessary safety net when needed.

Under the bonnet, the 2025 A3 facelift is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. With 110 kilowatts of power and 250Nm of torque, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds. This setup is well-suited for city driving, offering a good balance of power and efficiency, with a claimed fuel consumption of just 5.4 litres/100km (we saw 7.7L) and CO2 emissions of 124 grams per kilometre.

On the road, the A3 feels light and nimble, making it an excellent choice for urban environments. While it may feel slightly underpowered for those who crave more performance, it’s perfectly suited for city commutes and daily driving. On that, for those seeking more power, Audi’s S3 or RS3 models are better equipped. In dynamic drive mode, the A3 offers a bit more oomph, while the steering remains precise and Audi-like, making cornering a pleasure. Visibility is good, even through the rear glass, and the seating is incredibly supportive.

The ride quality of the A3 is firm, offering a sporty feel without being too harsh. It strikes a nice balance between comfort and performance, and the sport hatch’s size makes it easy to navigate in tight spaces like mall parks, while the overall handling remains tight and responsive, ensuring you can enjoy every twist and turn of the road.

The A3 remains a solid choice for anyone looking to step into the premium compact car segment without breaking the bank (relatively speaking that is).
