Volkswagen Touareg Celebrates 20 Years

The Volkswagen Touareg was unveiled way back in 2002 and celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, VW have unveiled a Touareg ‘Edition 20’ commemorative model with an exclusive paint scheme and interior details.

A one-off paint colour is the highlight of this special edition

More than 1 million units of the premium SUV have been sold so far which makes this rather quite special considering the bold step that VW took 20 years ago. The special ‘Edition 20’ model comes in a unique Meloe Blue colour with gloss black ‘Bogota’ wheels. Continuing with the exterior, the windows are darkened, cherry red tinted rear taillights and an ‘Edition 20’ badge set it apart from the standard model.

The same special feel is translated into the interior where the exclusivity is highlighted by illuminated door sills, ‘Savona’ black leather seats and Ceramique coloured contrast inserts. Double piping highlights the ‘Edition 20’ badging on the dashboard with the top of the gear selector also embossed with the same.

Touareg ‘Edition 20’ is available with four powertrain options that range from 170kW to 280kW and include two V6 diesel options, one pure petrol V6 and one petrol V6 PHEV variant. All of these options link up to an 8 speed dual-clutch (DSG) gearbox and VW’s ‘4MOTION’ all wheel drive system.

The Touareg nameplate has had an incredible run!

Touareg has always been a record breaking car for Volkswagen. Remember when they launched a 5 litre V10 version of the SUV which also pulled a 155 tonne Boeing 747 out of its hangar! The ‘Race Touareg’ dominated the Dakar Rally for three consecutive years while the road going SUV set a long distance world record on the Pan-American highway. The Touareg covered 23,000kms in just 12 days on that voyage!
