Subaru of America used its annual Boxerfest gathering at the York Fairgrounds in Pennsylvania on 27 September to reveal limited.production special editions of the 2027 WRX and 2027 BRZ, both built on the enthusiast-focused tS trim, both aimed directly at people who already know what a tS badge means.
Subaru’s own press release confirmed the debut but was deliberately thin on details, naming only the date, venue and that both cars would be “limited production, enthusiast focused editions.” The teaser image that did the rounds beforehand showed a WRX tS in World Rally Blue with a tall, pedestal mounted carbon fibre rear wing, considerably more aggressive than the body coloured factory spoiler Subaru has used for years, and clearly the detail that’s generated most of the enthusiast chatter ahead of the reveal.
This year’s specials follow the same pattern as 2025’s Boxerfest cars, the WRX Series.Yellow and BRZ Series.Yellow, both tS-based, both capped at 350 units, both manual only. If this year’s cars follow suit, expect a similarly tight production run rather than a mainstream trim level, and before you say anything about this being an US-centric release: that car went to become a blueprint of other special editions, so this could indeed become something we see on our shores in some shape or form.
The specific names WRX GD25 and BRZ ZC15 read as references to the WRX’s original GD-chassis code and the BRZ’s ZC6/ZC15-family code, marking 25 years of WRX and 15 years of BRZ in the US. They are circulating from social coverage of the reveal rather than from Subaru’s own press materials, so a grain of salt is recommended. What is confirmed, however, is that a tS-based WRX with a serious new rear wing, and a tS-based BRZ are getting their own anniversary treatment, both revealed live at Boxerfest. Subaru is giving their sporty flagships the treatment they deserve, and we’ll all here for it!
