Called an “elegantly modern cocoon” by the executives at Renault, it’s clear that there is a strong focus on interior quality when it comes to the new Austral. In the photo showing the dashboard, one can see plenty of matte soft touch finishes with the French brand using a combination of wood and chrome to alleviate the feel of the cabin.

More teaser shots show the front door panels which also feature chrome inlays and the “smart hand rest” which can slide back and forth for comfort. Renault’s head of colour and trim said that there was no compromise when it came to choosing materials quality workmanship for the interior. As such, the Icon level trim has an open-pore wood finish across the dashboard!

The Austral represents the beginning of Renault’s new design language with sharper lines general improvements to SUV design. The rear lights merge into the Renault logo while the body uses micro-optic plexiglass technology that was first seen on the Megane E-Tech electric which reveals patterns and engravings when exposed to LED lights.

Unveiling of the Austral is set for the 8th of March at 7:30AM UK time which makes it late evening for us down under! For now, watch the teaser video below:
