Polestar, the Swedish EV performance brand is on its way here! With the Polestar 2 set to be their first offering in New Zealand. Amazingly, their cars will be available to order from as early as later on this year.

Who is Polestar?

First things first, let’s introduce the brand. Polestar is a young car brand and relatively unknown to Kiwis. The car enthusiasts among you will remember Polestar from its days as the sporting division of Volvo. Well, Volvo and Geely have simply taken that to the next level and now Polestar is a stand-alone brand. Officially launched in 2017, Polestar benefits from working in tandem with Volvo’s technological and safety advances. Their head office is in Sweden with their cars currently being available in 13 markets across the world. Their introduction in New Zealand represents Polestar’s expansion into 5 new markets in the Asia-Pacific region.

Where do I buy one?

Polestar’s model is quite interesting because the cars are sold through a process that is 100% digital. However, you can also pop down to your nearest ‘Polestar Space’ or ‘Polestar Destination’. These are places where you can experience not only the car but also the brand and all it stands for. NZ’s very first ‘Polestar Destination’ is set to be opened later this year and the brand will be represented by the Giltrap Group here.

Polestar 2

Launched in 2020, the 2 is the company’s first fully electric high volume production car. It has since gone on to win a plethora of awards including Top Gear’s EV of the Year and Red Dot’s Best of the Best for Product Design. Featuring an all vegan interior as standard along with other sustainable materials and usable performance, the 2 is the perfect all-rounder.

The Polestar 2 was also the first car in the world to have Google built in! It has what’s called an ‘Android Automotive OS’ and integrates Google’s services into the car. You get Google Assistant, an EV friendly version of Google Maps and Google Play Store. All operated by voice or through an 11-inch touchscreen. Polestar regularly releases software updates so your 2 will always feel brand new! There’s several powertrains available with the range topper getting a 78kWhr battery and 408bhp to the wheels!

Keep your eye on brand because the Polestar 3 SUV and the Precept are next in line.
