Land Rover is taking its legendary Defender to new heights with the introduction of the Defender OCTA, a rally-prepped vehicle that marks the brand’s bold entry into the world of Dakar and FIA World Rally-Raid Championships. This marks Land Rover’s first factory-backed entry into the grueling world of rally competitions, and the OCTA is designed to be a formidable competitor on the world’s toughest terrains.
Reimagined for the harshest of conditions, the OCTA isn’t your everyday off-roader. While it retains the unmistakable silhouette and rugged looks of the road-going Defender, this rally-ready machine is engineered from the ground up for endurance racing. Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division collaborated closely with racing experts to ensure it is battle-ready for the punishing environments it will face in events like the famous Dakar Rally.
The OCTA features extensive modifications to the chassis and suspension, optimised to handle the desert dunes, rocky trails, and unpredictable conditions that define these events. Its lightweight construction is paired with a roll cage and reinforced underbody protection, ensuring safety and durability.
Under the hood, the top dog Defender packs a high performance, twin-turbo V8, though Land Rover has yet to release what changes the rally-going version could have. What’s clear, however, is the OCTA’s focus on blending speed, reliability, and efficiency that will have it see the finishing line of the grueling races.
