Nissan Australia has given the all-new Y63 Patrol more cargo space, more second-row legroom and a 3,700kg braked towing capacity on every grade, with first deliveries due in early 2027.
Nissan Australia has explained how the all-new Patrol does the job big families and caravan owners buy it for. The Y63 model has more room in all three rows and more cargo space. Every grade also gets a 3,700kg braked towing capacity.
The update doesn’t cover pricing or the new powertrain in any detail. Instead, it’s all about practical space. The figures come from a pre-production vehicle, so final Australian specifications could still change.
More Space Where Families Need It
A new ‘Zero Gravity’ seat structure appears in the front and second rows. It uses high-damping foam, which Nissan says cuts vibration on rough and corrugated roads. That’s a sensible target for a vehicle likely to see plenty of gravel. The front row also gains hip, shoulder and legroom on every grade, plus a higher driving position.
Massage seats are available too. On the Ti-L+ only the driver gets one, while the Ti-L Reserve adds massage for the front passenger. The second row now slides. With the seats pushed right back, Nissan quotes up to 250mm more legroom than the outgoing Y62. That’s a real gain, although sliding the seats back naturally takes space from the rows behind.
A Third Row Meant for Adults
Nissan clearly wants the third row to be used, not just tolerated. A new tilt-and-glide second-row seat replaces the old mechanical tumble arrangement. It lets people climb into the back even with a child seat fitted, which parents of toddlers will welcome.
A wider sidestep on every grade also makes getting in and out easier. Nissan says the third row now seats three people properly. On the Ti-L Reserve, the quilted trim even extends to the rearmost seats.
Cargo Capacity Up Across the Board
Cargo space grows in every configuration. Nissan’s figures, measured using the US SAE method, are:
- 577 litres behind the third row (up 110 litres)
- 1,594 litres with the third row folded (up 181 litres)
- 2,749 litres with both rear rows folded (up 127 litres)
Folding the seats leaves a near-flat floor. On PRO-4X and Ti-L Reserve grades, adaptive air suspension can lower the rear to make loading easier.
Towing Gets the Most Attention
The braked towing rating rises by 200kg over the Y62. There’s a catch, though. You’ll need the right tow tongue and tow ball setup to use the full 3,700kg, and Nissan sells these as at-cost accessories. As always, the real limit also depends on vehicle load and towball download.
The safety equipment is more convincing. For the first time, every grade gets Trailer Blind Spot Warning alongside Trailer Sway Control. PRO-4X and Ti-L Reserve buyers also get Trailer Docking Support, which helps line up the tow bar with the coupling. Those two grades come standard with an electric trailer brake controller.
When It Arrives
The new Patrol isn’t on sale yet, and first deliveries are planned for the first quarter of 2027. Nissan hasn’t released pricing or the full grade breakdown. The Patrol has long appealed as a big, dependable tow vehicle and family hauler. This generation adds the trailer technology many rivals already offer and a third row that’s properly usable. Those two changes will matter more to buyers than the extra litres of cargo space.
