MG has detailed a new Plug-in Hybrid+ powertrain, a semi-solid-state SolidCore battery and an expanded driver-assistance programme, including a motorway autopilot system due in 2027, as part of a technology roadmap unveiled in London.
MG has laid out a technology roadmap covering its next generation of plug-in hybrids, a new solid-state battery, and an expanded driver-assistance programme. The company revealed the plans at MG Tech Day, held at its UK headquarters in London.

The announcement covers three areas: a redesigned Plug-in Hybrid+ powertrain, SolidCore semi-solid-state battery technology, and further development of MG’s ADAS suite, including a motorway autopilot system due in 2027.
A Smarter Plug-in Hybrid System
The new Plug-in Hybrid+ system pairs a 1.1-litre or 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor setup. MG says the engines reach thermal efficiencies above 42% and 43% respectively. A new transmission uses what MG calls Power Split and Motor Decoupling to shift between electric, hybrid and engine-only drive depending on speed.
MG claims the system keeps the engine above 40% thermal efficiency across roughly 90% of driving conditions. Claimed performance figures include 0-62mph in under six seconds and 50-75mph in 3.5 seconds, with hill-start capability improved by up to 72% over the outgoing system. The company also says cabin noise in electric mode drops by up to 5dB. The MG ZS Plug-in Hybrid+ will be the first model to use the system, arriving in 2027.
SolidCore Battery Heads to PHEV Models
MG confirmed its SolidCore semi-solid-state battery, built around a 3D spinel structure, will extend to future Plug-in Hybrid+ models. The company says the technology, which it claims makes it the first manufacturer to mass-produce semi-solid-state batteries, improves power response and keeps output more consistent across temperatures and charge states. Three new SUVs across the B, C and D segments will be the first Plug-in Hybrid+ models to receive it.

Parking Help and Motorway Autopilot
MG says it has gathered more than 1.2 million kilometres of driving data across 24 European countries to tune its ADAS systems for local roads. Its One Touch iAD parking system, already used on MG’s IM models, covers more than 30 parking scenarios and over 300 space types, including unmarked bays, and can remember a reverse path for up to 100 metres.

MG is also developing further parking features, including head-in parking and smartphone-controlled remote parking. Longer term, the company plans to introduce Navigate On Autopilot for motorways in late 2027, on a new SUV, with driver supervision required throughout. A version for city driving is not expected until 2028. MG is separately trialling Level 4 robotaxis in Germany, the Middle East and China, though it has not given a timeline for bringing that technology to production cars.
Together, the plans point to MG pairing more efficient hybrid technology with driver-assistance systems tuned specifically for European roads, rather than adapted from elsewhere.
