If the standard INEOS Grenadier already looked like it could survive the apocalypse, then the new Trialmaster X has just turned the dial up to “bring it on.”

Unveiled by INEOS Automotive in London, the new Trialmaster X is being pitched as the most capable and best-equipped Grenadier yet, and it’s hard to argue with that claim. This thing looks like it was designed by someone who thinks weekends should involve mountain passes, river crossings and getting gloriously lost somewhere beyond cellphone coverage.
But here’s the clever bit, while the Trialmaster X doubles down on hardcore off-road ability, it also brings a much more premium edge to the Grenadier range. Think less “bare-bones farm truck” and more “luxury expedition rig.”
According to INEOS Automotive CEO Lynn Calder, the new model builds on the upgrades introduced across the 2026 line-up and represents the “ultimate combination of off-road toughness, premium day-to-day comfort and intrepid spirit.”
And after looking through the spec sheet, that statement feels pretty on point.
A Grenadier That Wants for Nothing
The Trialmaster X effectively combines the rugged capability of the existing Trialmaster with the creature comforts of the more lifestyle-focused Fieldmaster. The result is a flagship that arrives loaded with just about everything you’d want before disappearing into the wilderness for a week.
Available in both Station Wagon and Quartermaster pick-up forms, the Trialmaster X immediately stands out thanks to its exclusive badging and purposeful styling. Scottish White is the standard colour, but buyers can also choose from Devil Red, Magic Mushroom or Donny Grey, all of which sound like either paint colours or obscure indie bands.

There’s also a contrasting roof available in either Inky Black or Scottish White, adding a bit more visual drama to what is already one of the toughest-looking vehicles on sale today. And unlike plenty of SUVs that wear rugged styling as little more than a fashion statement, the Grenadier backs it up with proper hardware.
Built Properly for the Tough Stuff
The headline capability upgrades read like a greatest hits list for serious off-road enthusiasts. Front and rear locking differentials are standard. It has a raised air intake, BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 tyres wrapped around 17-inch alloy wheels, it even has high-load electrical preparation for accessories and expedition gear.
The Trialmaster X is engineered for people who genuinely head off-grid, tow heavy loads, or need a vehicle capable of handling rough terrain without breaking a sweat.
There’s even an integrated front winch with a hefty 5.5-tonne capacity, while the Grenadier’s impressive 7-tonne gross train weight means it’s more than ready to haul boats, trailers, campers or whatever else your weekend adventure demands.
Safari windows and privacy glass add both practicality and character, while a lockable spare wheel storage box helps keep gear secure when the road gets rough, or when you’ve parked up somewhere remote for the night.
For buyers travelling into regions with questionable fuel quality, INEOS is also continuing to offer a petrol fuel filter and diesel water separator. It’s a small detail, but it perfectly sums up the Grenadier philosophy, this vehicle is designed to actually go places.

More Comfortable Than Ever
One of the more interesting things about the new Trialmaster X is how much attention has been paid to comfort and refinement. Early Grenadiers earned plenty of praise for capability and durability, but some buyers wanted a bit more luxury for everyday use. INEOS has clearly listened.
Step inside the Trialmaster X and you’ll now find black or two-tone grey and black leather upholstery, heated front seats, carpet floor mats and a premium sound system. That means you can finish a muddy trail run and still cruise home feeling like you’re in something properly premium.
The beauty of the Grenadier has always been its unapologetically functional design. Big physical switches, chunky grab handles and surfaces that look like they’d survive years of abuse all remain intact. The difference now is that the Trialmaster X adds a layer of comfort that broadens the vehicle’s appeal beyond hardcore adventurers.
In other words, it’s just as happy commuting through the city as it is climbing a rocky trail somewhere in the back blocks.
The Grenadier Continues to Evolve
It’s been three years since the Grenadier first launched, and INEOS Automotive seems determined to keep evolving the range rather than letting it stand still. That’s important because the off-road market is changing rapidly. Buyers increasingly want genuine capability without sacrificing modern comfort, technology and usability. The Trialmaster X feels like INEOS responding directly to that shift.
And while many modern SUVs continue drifting toward soft, road-focused lifestyles, the Grenadier remains refreshingly old-school in its approach. Ladder-frame chassis, serious towing ability, mechanical robustness and genuine off-road engineering are all still central to its DNA. The difference now is that you no longer have to compromise on comfort to get those things.

A Proper Adventure Machine
There’s something deeply cool about a vehicle that knows exactly what it is. The INEOS Grenadier Trialmaster X doubles down on rugged authenticity while finally adding the premium touches many buyers have been asking for.
For adventurers, tradies, tourers and anyone who thinks the best roads are usually the unsealed ones, the Trialmaster X could well be the sweet spot in the Grenadier range. It’s tough, hugely capable, thoughtfully equipped and now more comfortable than ever before. And in a world increasingly filled with SUVs that are scared of mud, that feels rather refreshing.
