Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 has become the latest New Zealand Car of the Year, claiming the most prestigious and longest running trophy in the country. The winner is chosen by members of the New Zealand Motoring Writers’ Guild of which our very own Dave McLeod is a member! The Guild’s members have to test the car in real world conditions which provides a true result to judge each car against.

Richard Edwards, president of the NZ Motoring Writers’ Guild had high praise for the IONIQ 5, saying “It is truly mould-breaking, without sacrificing efficiency, practicality or attractiveness. It is an all-around intriguing car before you consider its exceptional all-electric drivetrain.” Hyundai’s GM was equally pleased to be accept the award, it was further proof that the brand’s commitment to sustainable motoring is being dually recognised.

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 has captivated reviewers all around the world

The IONIQ 5 is the first model to be built on Hyundai’s e-GMP platform and it was also the first fully electric model to be launched under the IONIQ sub-brand. Furthermore, the 5 broke records as it received more pre-orders and enquiries than any Hyundai before it.
