Lamborghini Confirms Their V12 Will Live On

There have been a lot of changes in the car industry over the past year or two with the major one being around emissions. Car manufacturers are being strangled and the larger engined cars are especially suffering.

We have already seen the news about Mercedes dropping the V8 C63 AMG, Ferrari has resorted to turbo power and who knows what else is coming. Most would have expected to see news about Lamborghini dropping their V12 from a line-up but that’s especially hard to do when Lamborghini’s V12s have become renowned over the last 50 years. What happens then?!

Great news! We will continue to see big V12 Lamborghinis

Lambo’s Chief Technical Officer, Maurizio Reggiani recently let out a secret about the company keeping the V12 engine for their Aventador replacement that is around the corner! What a relief! Though, he did go on to say that the V12 will be helped by a hybrid powertrain but that shouldn’t deter your interest because remember the LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and Porsche 918? They are all hybrids as well, bloody good ones too!

He didn’t say much more except that the electric motor would feature at the front of the car because of torque vectoring and traction, offering a more balanced driving experience.

The screaming V12 is not dead just yet

Reggiani is a passionate advocate of the V12 because of the part that it plays in the marque’s history and he acknowledged that the only way Lamborghini can keep that history alive is by adding a hybrid powertrain. The production Aventador S currently outputs 533kW of power and nearly 700Nm of torque from its 6.5 Litre V12. The new hybrid system is supposed to add massive amounts to those figures, watch this space!
