Much to the surprise of the automotive world, Ford and Renault have just announced a “strategic partnership.” With its sights firmly set on electric offerings for the European market, the Blue Oval recently began a tie up with its French counterpart, the result should mean both brands enjoy improved competitiveness in Europe.

The foundation of the agreement is that the two brands will collaborate on developing two new Ford EVs, built on Renault’s Ampere platform and destined for Europe. These cars will be designed by Ford and are promise to feature “authentic Ford-brand DNA” but will be manufactured by Renault at their ‘ElectriCity’ facility in Northern France, the same plant that also rolls out the Renault 4 and 5. The first of these two new Ford vehicles is expected to hit showrooms in 2028, the two brands also took this opportunity to begin an agreement on working together on light commercial vehicles for Europe.
Overall, the aim for this ambitious project was to unite the two brands’ “innovation, design and software and service delivery” which appears to have successfully been done here! Now we wait and see whether a Renault 5 inspired Ford Fiesta revival is on the cards
