Automotive giant Stellantis and Archer Aviation have today announced an agreement to expand their existing partnership. The two companies will join forces to manufacture the Archer Midnight aircraft.
Stellantis will work with Archer to build a new manufacturing plant in Covington, Georgia where manufacturing of the Midnight aircraft will begin in 2024. Midnight is an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft which can carry four passengers plus a pilot. A range of 100 miles has been stated with the craft optimized for 20 mile trips with brief 10 minute charging stops in between.
Archer brings to the table a team of experts in electric powertrains, certification and eVTOLs while Stellantis will provide the manufacturing technology and capital as well as other key ingredients. Archer is aiming for large scale commercialization of its aircraft with the plan to have Stellantis as the exclusive manufacturer.
Stellantis has been a strategic partner of Archer since 2020 and an investor since 2021.
