Timing could not be more convenient. Just minutes after I got my iX piece up – which you absolutely should go read now – BMW unveiled the new iX, pushing the boundaries by offering enhanced performance and a longer range. This update extends its range to over 700 km (on the WLTP cycle), thanks to efficiency improvements in power electronics, wheel bearings, and tyres. These refinements also boost energy consumption efficiency by over 8 per cent, giving the iX xDrive60 an extra 60 km of range.

The 2025 vehicles, when sold as a 2026 model, will consist of a lineup split between the iX xDrive45, iX xDrive60, and the high-performance iX M70 xDrive. The xDrive45 now produces 300 kW, slashing its 0–100 km/h time to 5.1 seconds. The xDrive60 benefits from a 15 kW increase, reaching 400 kW and a 0–100 km/h time of 4.6 seconds. The M70 xDrive remains the most powerful, with up to 485 kW and a blistering 3.8-second sprint.

The exterior remains bold and modern, with a revised kidney grille featuring intricate detailing and optional illumination. Slimmer headlights now incorporate vertical daytime running lights and indicators. The M Sport package enhances the design further with aggressive styling cues, while new colour options such as Arctic Race Blue and Frozen Deep Grey add more personalisation choices. The front end had always been the most contentious part of the whole design, and yours truly now thinks people will now have to try harder to hate the way it looks – it’s a small change that makes a big difference.

Battery technology has also advanced, with the iX xDrive45’s capacity increasing by 30 per cent to 94.8 kWh. Fast charging capabilities have improved, with the xDrive45 now supporting up to 175 kW DC charging and the xDrive60 and M70 reaching 195 kW. Features like Plug & Charge Multi Contract and solar-optimised charging enhance convenience.

Driving dynamics have been refined with a revised chassis, improved weight distribution, and lower rolling resistance tyres. The M70 xDrive gets additional upgrades, including adaptive suspension and M-tuned anti-roll bars. Advanced driver assistance features remain a highlight, with Level 2+ Highway Assistant and remote-controlled parking available.

Inside, the iX maintains its progressive luxury, with the optional M Sport package adding sportier touches. Standard features include adaptive LED headlights, a Harman Kardon sound system, and BMW Live Cockpit Professional. BMW iDrive now runs on OS 8.5, featuring an intuitive Curved Display, enhanced voice control, and digital services such as in-car gaming.

With greater range, improved performance, and smarter technology, the BMW iX cements its place as a leader in electric mobility, offering a refined yet dynamic driving experience.
