In a partnership that goes back to 2015, now BMW M Motorsport and Shell have reached an agreement to continue their agreement into a new decade. The petroleum giant is both the ‘Premium Technology and Innovation Partner’ currently for BMW M and will soon become the team’s ‘Energy Partner’ as well.
Those that follow the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) would have already seen the number 20 Shell branded BMW M Hybrid V8 car at the season opener in Qatar. This car will fly the livery for the upcoming season of WEC, including a trip to the 24 hours of Le Mans, the series’ biggest event. South African driver Sheldon van der Linde will drive for the team in both the WEC and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (IWSC) throughout the course of the year.
The Shell BMW M4 GT3, driven by Sheldon has previously been DTM champion back in 2022 and this past success was one of the motivators for the two brands to continue their relationship. With the new agreement in place, BMW M Motorsport will now be exclusively using Shell products including Shell Helix and Shell EV Plus. The two brands will also be working together on developing sustainable lubricants and e-fluids for electric vehicles as part of their innovation driven motorsport projects.
BMW M customers will also get access to Shell’s premium products through BMW M Trackdays and other promotional events.
