While attending Audi’s 15th year of their ICE experience event, we managed to get some interview time with Audi New Zealand General Manager, Greg Leet, and Audi Sales and Product Planning Manager, Ina Economopoulos, as the company unveiled its ambitious plans to introduce 15 new vehicles to the New Zealand market by the end of 2026. This significant announcement further solidifies Audi’s commitment to innovation and sets them apart from their competitors in a rapidly evolving automotive landscape.
Greg Leet kickstarted the conversation by emphasising Audi’s dedication to providing top-notch products that align with their ambitious goals. He highlighted the essence of the Audi brand and its unique proposition, aiming to enhance the brand’s distinctiveness and relevance in the New Zealand market.
“We’re an ambitious bunch,” said Leet. “But what’s critically important is that we’ve got the products to back that up.”
He told us that the other thing about the Audi brand is what it stands for and how it ‘shows up’, saying that they are looking to bring the brand more to life and become more distinctive.
“What makes Audi different from our competitors? How do we show up? Where do we show up, and what are the efforts that we make to ensure that where we show up we will be relevant for New Zealand,” Leet said.
Amidst the challenging market conditions, particularly in the midst of the transition towards electric vehicles, Greg Leet encouraged consumers to consider investing in electric cars now more than ever. He emphasised the unprecedented deals available in the market, making it an opportune time for buyers to explore electric vehicles.
Changing tact a little, Ina Economopoulos joined the discussion, revealing the exciting lineup of new vehicles Audi has in store for New Zealand. She announced the impending launch of 15 new vehicles, including 9 brand-new nameplates, reflecting Audi’s relentless pursuit of innovation and diversity in its product offerings.
One of the standout vehicles slated for debut is the Q6 e-Tron, a rear-wheel-drive marvel starting at $134,990, illustrating Audi’s commitment to pushing boundaries and introducing cutting-edge technologies to the market. Additionally, the RS6 GT, a limited-edition release with only 660 units globally, is set to make a grand entrance in New Zealand, further underscoring Audi’s exclusive offerings for discerning customers.
Audi New Zealand has confirmed the Q6 e-tron is due to arrive in New Zealand in early 2025. The SUV range will comprise of two drive variants – Advanced (Q6 e-tron) and S-Line (Q6 e-tron quattro S line). Leet explains that the Q6 e-tron is the next technological leap in premium electric mobility for our customers.
“For the first time in New Zealand, Audi will offer a medium-sized fully electric SUV – allowing us to target the most popular car segment in our market. Built on the new PPE platform, this is an exciting step for Audi. We will set a new standard in the premium segment, offering unparalleled performance, design and technology at a competitive price.”
Audi now at odds with ICE-powered vehicles
Ina Economopoulos also shed light on Audi’s strategic approach to vehicle naming conventions, revealing that all odd-numbered nameplates will feature internal combustion engines (ICE) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), while even-numbered models will be fully electric. This strategic shift exemplifies Audi’s forward-thinking vision and commitment to sustainable mobility solutions.
With a promise to refresh 80% of its model range within the next two years, Audi is poised to captivate the New Zealand market with its innovative lineup and commitment to excellence. As industry dynamics continue to evolve, Audi’s bold initiatives signal a new era of automotive excellence and distinction in New Zealand’s competitive landscape.
