Citroen Racing has officially taken the covers off its GEN4 Formula E racecar as it prepares for Season 13 of Formula E. The striking ‘double chevron’ inspired livery aside, the GEN4 cars represent a huge step forward in terms of advancements on the track.
Firstly, the vehicles now have permanent four wheel drive with an advanced traction control system. There’s two levels of downforce that cars can deploy during race conditions, particularly important since power is up to 450kW in a standard race with 600kW available during qualifying and ‘Attack Mode’! Regen braking has also gone from 600kW to a whopping 700kW.

The goal was to make Formula E more competitive and increase the competence required to win a race, from a strategy perspective. Remember that this is only Citroen’s second time on the grid and the French brand will be hoping to build on their first Formula E season last year. To the car itself, the livery represents Citroen’s history through its use of ‘double chevron’ motifs, bold colours highlight the brand’s “dynamic identity” and there are a few nods to its heritage as well.
