A safety recall has been put out for the MG3 compact hatchback, specifically those manufactured between the 6th of March 2024 and the 30th of July 2025. The recall notice comes following Euro NCAP testing of the MG3 earlier in the year where the side of the driver’s seat closest to the centre console slid forward by 111.5mm, movement that could increase the risk of leg injuries.

A total of 1,207 vehicles are being recalled by MG Motor New Zealand with the NZTA and IMA both having been notified of the issue already. As of today, MG NZ aren’t aware of any incidents that have taken place relating to the defect. Owners will be contacted directly with the fix being carried out free of charge with an expected time of 30 minutes to 1 hour. The fix will be an additional component added to the driver’s seat rail and will ensure that it is back up to scratch where safety is concerned.

MG3 owners can also reach out MG New Zealand directly to check if their car is affected by emailing mgcustomercare@mgmotor.co.au or calling +61 1800 825 324.

MG has also expressed its continuing commitment to both driver and passenger safety while ensuring that the appropriate service is delivered to those affected by the recall.
