The Honda Aircraft Company has achieved a significant milestone, officially marking the first flight by a twin-turbine very light aircraft to be entirely completed using Sustainable Aviation Fuels or SAF. The test was flown by a production model HondaJet, fueled with a “a mix of Hydroprocessed Esters, Fatty Acids, Synthetic Paraffinic Kerosene and Hydrodeoxygenated Synthetic Aromatic Kerosene fuels.”
The test flight was completed over Greensboro in North Carolina with the HondaJet touching down at the brand’s headquarters at the Piedmont Triad International Airport. The aircraft was powered by the HF120, an award winning engine developed in partnership by Honda and General Electric.
HondaJets currently in service already have the ability to be run on 50% SAF but this test flight marks the next step in the brand’s goal to reduce its carbon footprint. HondaJet is already the most efficient plane in its class, approximately 20% lighter on fuel than its competitors and has already received awards for its pioneering spirit in the aircraft world.
