The highly anticipated second season of the South Korean dystopian survival thriller “Squid Game,” created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, premiered on Netflix on December 26, 2024. Titled “Squid Game 2,” the season is set three years after the events of the first, with victor Seong Gi-hun (portrayed by Lee Jung-jae) grappling with his decisions and eventually re-entering the treacherous game to uncover its mastermind. The narrative explores his pursuit of the recruiter while delving deeper into the moral complexities of the deadly competition.
Season 2 opens with the episode “Bread and Lottery,” where Gi-hun’s desperation reignites his confrontation with the ominous world of the games . In “Halloween Party,” he obtains an exclusive invitation that leads to sharp revelations and tense standoffs with other key characters, including Detective Jun-ho . Fans can expect a series of suspenseful and emotionally charged episodes as the stakes rise, alliances falter, and the show continues its scathing critique of societal inequality and greed.

The Red light/Green light game returns as the first of the challenges, but despite Seong Gi-hun’s knowledge of the game and attempt to railroad the result, the organisers have their usual way of disrupting the status quo.
The second season has already broken records, achieving Netflix’s biggest TV debut with 68 million views within just four days . With its gripping blend of psychological tension, unexpected twists, and layered storytelling, “Squid Game” Season 2 has not only lived up to its predecessor but has left audiences eagerly speculating about its next steps—and the teased upcoming third season.

Oddly, Kia has been named as the partner for Squid Game 2, however, from what we saw, Hyundai were the main vehicle leads in the series (yes we know they come from the same source).
It’s a must watch for those that have seen the first series, however (spoiler alert), it will make you want to see season 3.
