The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT is not only Porsche’s fastest ever EV but it’s also the brand’s most power production car and it recently got a chance to prove itself at a public drag meet at Sydney Dragway. The Taycan in question completed the quarter mile in 9.083s, clocking 252 km/hr at its peak, making it the fastest time recorded by a production car on Australian soil.

To top that off, the IHRA requires that any vehicle exceeding 150mph (241.4km/hr) be fitted with a parachute, proving that the Taycan can not only take off quickly but also stop just as fast! Porsche describe the car as one of their very best. hailing its “forward thinking technology, breathtaking performance and a deep respect for motorsport heritage.”

760kW of overboost is delivered using launch control with the capability to have a two second burst of 815kW, the Taycan lined up against purpose built machines while being able to hold its own ground. The above exercise was a way for Porsche to prove that motorsport and performance is still very much alive within the brand, just that electricity is changing the way speed is viewed.
