Production starts on all-new Nissan Murano

Nissan has officially begun production of the redesigned 2025 Nissan Murano at its award-winning Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant. The milestone was celebrated on December 3, 2024, during a ceremony that included Nissan executives, community leaders, and Smyrna and Decherd plant employees, as the first 2025 model rolled off the assembly line.

Brian Crockett, Vice President of Manufacturing for the Smyrna plant, described the occasion as a “proud day” for the team, emphasizing the dedication and hard work of thousands of employees involved in bringing the refreshed Murano to life. The 2025 Murano embodies Nissan’s commitment to innovation and addressing the evolving needs of consumers.

The redesigned Murano features bold styling and advanced technology, showcasing Nissan’s manufacturing excellence and focus on exceeding customer expectations. The vehicle is powered by engines produced at the Nissan Decherd Powertrain Plant, located in Tennessee. David Sliger, Vice President of the Decherd plant, highlighted the teamwork and dedication that contributed to the production of the Murano, calling it “a testament to the strength of Nissan’s manufacturing operations across Tennessee”.

Nissan plans to scale up assembly to more than 6,700 units per month by March 2025, with the first vehicles expected to reach dealerships early in the year. Smyrna’s operations have already delivered nearly 145,000 Murano units across the U.S. and Canada since the production of the model began at the plant in 2020.

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee also praised Nissan’s contributions, recognizing the company as a vital partner in fostering job creation, innovation, and a strong workforce within the state. He noted their 40-year history in Tennessee and expressed gratitude for their continued investments in the region .

The Smyrna facility, Nissan’s largest manufacturing site in the U.S., produces several vehicle models, including the LEAF, Pathfinder, Rogue, and Infiniti QX60. With over 5,700 employees and an annual production capacity of 640,000 vehicles, the plant has received significant investments from Nissan, totaling $7.1 billion USD to date .
