Production of the fully electric Volvo EX30 has begun at the brand’s plant in Ghent, Belgium. EX30 had a spectacular debut year in 2024 as it quickly became one of Europe’s best selling EVs with manufacturing of the car now being expanded to meet rising demand!

The Swedish brand had always intended to manufacture the EX30 in Ghent which has been producing Volvo cars since 1965 and is Belgium’s only remaining complete car factory. The plant will soon begin producing the EX30 Cross Country later on in the year as well. Part of Volvo’s plan to keep a “diversified global manufacturing footprint”, the move will create 350 new jobs at a time when other manufacturers across Europe are reducing their operations. With their latest addition, the Ghent plant will have a total staff of nearly 6,600!
All of this didn’t happen overnight though with Volvo investing 200m Euros over the last few years to prepare their Belgian plant. Work included the ability to produce the new car platform, installing 600 new robots, extending the battery hall and battery pack assembly line. Production of EX30 in Europe helps with the EU’s sustainability and competitiveness goals whilst creating jobs on the continent.
Between their plants in Ghent, Belgium and Torslanda, Sweden, Volvo produces 10 different electric and hybrid models across Europe. A third site is currently under construction in Slovakia.
