Neue Klasse Innovation Meets Everyday Practicality
The all-new BMW iX4 represents the third pillar of the Bavarian brand’s ambitious Neue Klasse platform, and it’s set to reshape how we think about electric SUV coupés. With customer deliveries planned for Q1 2027, this is one to keep your eyes on.

Design That Turns Heads (Without Sacrificing Sense)
What makes the iX4 genuinely intriguing is how BMW has balanced aesthetic ambition with aerodynamic logic. The silhouette is undeniably elegant, a long wheelbase, short overhangs, and that flowing roofline create what can only be described as purposeful grace. Plus its 0.23 drag coefficient directly translates to the kind of real-world range that actually matters.

The front-end design language deserves special mention. The iconic BMW kidney grille and twin headlights merge into a single graphic element, creating that distinctive interplay of light and geometry that defines Neue Klasse. And yes, the M Sport package comes standard across the range, complete with 20-inch M light-alloy wheels and blue-painted M Sport brakes. No bean-counting here.

The Battery Revolution: What Gen6 eDrive Actually Means
Let’s talk about what makes the iX4 genuinely different from the EV crowd: sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology. The 800-volt electrical architecture, newly developed cylindrical battery cells, and highly efficient electric motors deliver meaningful improvements across the board.
The charging figures are where things get properly exciting. The iX4 50 xDrive supports ultra-fast DC charging at up to 400 kW, which means 387 kilometres of WLTP driving range in just 10 minutes under ideal conditions. Even more impressively, charging from 10 to 80 per cent takes just 21 minutes at a suitable high-power charging station. For the entry-level 40 xDrive, DC charging maxes out at 300 kW, but you’re still looking at the same 21-minute 10-80% charge time.

Range That Actually Works
The iX4 50 xDrive delivers up to 828 km of combined WLTP range, while the 40 xDrive manages up to 638 km. These are realistic numbers that mean you can genuinely plan longer journeys without obsessing over charging networks.
Credit the Heart of Joy high-performance computer for some of this efficiency. This “superbrain” integrates control of the drive system, braking, recuperation, and steering-related functions, operating up to ten times faster than previous systems. Up to 98 per cent of braking can be achieved through recuperation without touching the friction brakes.

Performance Credentials That Matter
Don’t let the efficiency talk fool you, the iX4 isn’t a motorway cruiser that happens to be electric. The 50 xDrive produces 345 kW and 645 Nm of torque, achieving 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. The 40 xDrive, while slightly less potent at 275 kW and 520 Nm, still manages 0-100 in 5.6 seconds. That’s properly quick for an SUV, electric or otherwise.
Inside: Where Technology Meets Clarity
The cabin introduces BMW Panoramic iDrive with BMW Operating System X—a genuinely thoughtful approach to in-car interaction. Rather than drowning you in screens, the system brings together relevant information across multiple surfaces: the windscreen (via Panoramic Vision), an optional 3D Head-Up Display, a 17.9-inch Central Display, and a multifunction sports steering wheel with illuminated controls. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included as standard, while the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant supports natural-language interaction and proactive suggestions.

The luggage compartment offers 490 litres of space, expanding to 1,600 litres with the rear seats folded, plus an additional 58 litres of storage beneath the bonnet. Proper, usable storage for an SUV that’s meant to be lived with daily.
Sustainability That Goes Beyond Marketing
BMW has taken a holistic approach to the iX4’s lifecycle sustainability. Approximately 30 per cent of the vehicle uses secondary materials, while production takes place at BMW Group Plant Debrecen in Hungary, a facility that operates exclusively on renewable energy.

Tarmac Takeaway
The BMW iX4 represents a genuine step forward in electric SUV design and technology. It’s not trying to reinvent the wheel, rather, it’s applying BMW’s considerable engineering expertise to create something that’s efficient without being compromised, practical without being dull, and genuinely quick without requiring apologies.
