Subaru Australia has officially confirmed that its newest electric SUV (aptly named the Subaru Trailseeker) is set to join the local line‑up in Q2 of 2026 (NZ TBC), marking a major milestone in the brand’s EV evolution and bringing a fresh spark of excitement to the adventure‑ready SUV segment. It’s not just another entry into the electric market; it’s Subaru’s quickest production vehicle ever, signalling a bold new chapter for the brand.
The Trailseeker arrives as an entirely new nameplate, sliding into the range as a larger, more adventure‑oriented alternative to the recently refreshed 2026 Solterra. Subaru says the Trailseeker has been engineered to deliver a new flavour of excitement and capability for drivers ready to embrace the electric age without sacrificing the rugged confidence the brand is known for.

At the heart of this new EV powerhouse sits Subaru’s next‑generation e‑Subaru Global Platform, a dedicated electric architecture developed to support higher power outputs, extended driving range, and enhanced all‑wheel‑drive performance. Combined with that signature Subaru balance and rigidity, the platform manages power delivery, traction, and overall vehicle stability in real time, giving drivers a composed and confident experience whether they’re cruising sealed roads or exploring harder‑to‑reach corners of Australia.
Under the skin, the Trailseeker delivers a muscular 280 kW of combined power, launching from 0–100 km/h in approximately 4.4 seconds, making it the fastest‑accelerating production Subaru in history. That’s proper performance territory, especially for an SUV that refuses to abandon its adventure‑focused DNA. Subaru has maintained a substantial 211 mm of ground clearance, supplemented with a low centre of gravity and, of course, Symmetrical All‑Wheel Drive, ensuring the Trailseeker remains as ready for the backroads as it is for the urban commute.

Powering all this is a 74.7 kWh CATL battery, offering a driving range of up to 533 km under ADR 81/02 testing standards. When it’s time to recharge, the Trailseeker supports 150 kW DC fast charging, capable of boosting the battery from 10 to 80 percent in roughly 30 minutes, ideal for road‑trip pit stops or quick top‑ups around town. For home and workplace setups, 22 kW three‑phase AC charging offers convenient overnight replenishment, while the 1500 W Vehicle‑to‑Load (V2L) capability lets owners power appliances and gear straight from the vehicle, adding yet another layer of practicality for weekend adventurers.
Towing enthusiasts aren’t left out either: the Trailseeker boasts a 1,500 kg braked towing capacity, giving it genuine real‑world versatility for caravans, trailers, and recreational equipment. Subaru has taken care to emphasise that although this is its most performance‑focused EV yet, capability and practicality remain at the core of the Trailseeker’s design.

Subaru Australia’s General Manager, Scott Lawrence, describes the Trailseeker as “the EV with personality,” highlighting its balance of engaging performance, all‑terrain capability, and strong Subaru DNA. He reinforces that the model doesn’t ask customers to choose between electric performance and Subaru’s hallmark sense of stability and control. Instead, the Trailseeker blends both into a package that is as fun as it is dependable, a combination the brand hopes will resonate strongly with Australian drivers.
The new model enters a rapidly expanding Subaru range. Alongside the next‑generation hybrid Forester, the improved 2026 Solterra, and the all‑new Outback and Wilderness line‑ups, the Trailseeker helps broaden Subaru’s offering at a time when consumer demand for electrified options continues to accelerate. Customers can already register interest online, with detailed specifications, pricing, and further launch information set to be announced closer to the vehicle’s arrival.

Subaru has always had a loyal following in Australia—drivers who expect capability, confidence, and durability. The Trailseeker promises all of that, while injecting a fresh jolt of electric excitement. Wrapped in a purposeful and dynamic SUV design, built on a platform engineered for modern performance, and powered by the fastest acceleration Subaru has ever delivered, the Trailseeker is shaping up to be a defining moment for the brand’s electric future.
