There’s something magical about watching a legendary automotive brand evolve without losing its soul. And that’s exactly what MG delivered at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2026, where two electrifying concept cars proved that sportiness and sustainability aren’t mutually exclusive.

The Concept Cars That Stole the Show
The MG GO! is a love letter to everything we adore about classic MG vehicles. This compact B-segment electric hatchback draws inspiration from the iconic MGB GT and other mid-20th-century MG beauties. It’s a contemporary reinterpretation that captures the emotional appeal of classic MGs while feeling entirely at home in today’s automotive landscape.

Due to launch in 2027, this little beauty promises to bring “genuine aspiration and desirability to the electric mainstream.” Carl Gotham, MG’s Design Director, explained the philosophy perfectly: “With MG GO!, we wanted to create something compact and contemporary, but also warm, expressive and immediately likeable, an embodiment of all that we admire about the MG brand.” The design language is deliberately simple, think clean lines, retro-futuristic proportions, and a playful character that makes you actually want to drive an electric hatchback.

Then there’s the MG Cyber Concept, and it’s absolutely bonkers in the best way possible. This flagship D-segment performance SUV reimagines what an electric vehicle can be. Drawing inspiration from the legendary EX181 land speed record car, the Cyber Concept proves that size, practicality, and heart-pounding performance can coexist in an SUV. “Performance without compromise” is the mantra here, and the Cyber Concept delivers exactly that, a vehicle equally suited to urban streets, long-distance adventures, and those twisting roads that make your adrenaline spike. Its powerful proportions and confident stance scream athleticism and sophistication, proving that electric vehicles don’t have to be boring boxes.

More Than Just Concepts
Beyond the headline-grabbing concepts, MG brought a seriously impressive lineup of production vehicles to Goodwood. Six models from their Plug-in Hybrid, Hybrid+, and Electric Vehicle range were on display, including the recently launched MGS9 PHEV (MG’s first seven-seat large SUV) and the MG4 EV Urban, a front-wheel-drive hatchback that’s turning heads with class-leading space and technology. The award-winning MG HS Plug-in Hybrid was there too, recently crowned first in an independent review of 59 plug-in hybrid models in the UK. You’ll also find the premium MG IM5, the bold MG ZS Hybrid+, and the stunning MG Cyberster, an all-electric roadster that’s basically MG’s embrace of its own sporting heritage.

The Tech That Makes It Work
MG didn’t just show up with pretty cars; they brought the brains to back it up. The Future Motion Show on the MG stand featured state-of-the-art robots demonstrating the brand’s competence in AI, intelligent autonomous driving, and connectivity. It’s a clever way to communicate that MG isn’t just chasing EV trends—they’re genuinely innovating.
Worth noting: MG continues to push the envelope with breakthrough technologies like their Hybrid+ powertrain and the MG SolidCore Battery, which is the world’s first mass-produced semi-solid-state battery technology for passenger vehicles.

A Brand in Full Momentum
What makes this Goodwood showing particularly impressive is the context. MG, founded in England in 1924, is experiencing a genuine renaissance. In 2025, the company surpassed 300,000 annual sales across the UK and Europe, and in early 2026 delivered its one-millionth vehicle to the European market. That’s not just growth—that’s a cultural shift. Drivers are realizing that choosing MG doesn’t mean compromising on quality, heritage, or driving enjoyment. It means joining a brand that respects what came before while enthusiastically embracing what’s to come.

Tarmac Takeaway
MG’s presence at Goodwood 2026 wasn’t just another manufacturer flexing its muscles. It was a masterclass in evolution. The GO! and Cyber concepts signal that electric vehicles can have personality, character, and emotional resonance. They can be exciting, desirable, and genuinely fun to drive.
At a time when many brands are abandoning their heritage in pursuit of EV anonymity, MG is doing the opposite. They’re taking everything that made MG legendary (sportiness, accessibility, joy) and translating it for an electric future. And if these concepts are any indication of what’s coming next, the next chapter of MG’s 100+ year story is going to be absolutely cracking.
