In response to recent reports from media and rumours that Lotus is shutting shop in the UK, the brand have retorted with a statement to reaffirm that it is staying put! An official release from Lotus Cars called UK “home”, especially to the design, motorsport and Lotus Engineering departments of the business, not to forget that it is where the Emira is manufactured. Europe is also Lotus’ largest market by sales.

The release went on to say that operations are continuing as normal with “no plans to close the factory”. However, the brand are evaluating options in an attempt to “enhance efficiency and ensure global competitiveness” as the automotive industry continues to go through a tumultuous period.
The town of Hethel in Norfolk, England has been the home of Lotus Cars for decades, almost since its inception and to think of the iconic sportscar brand being based anywhere else is a hard one for many.
