Lexus has confirmed the 2027 ES 350h hybrid will join the battery-electric ES 350e and ES 500e in dealerships overseas, completing an eighth-generation ES lineup that spans two distinct powertrain technologies on a single shared platform. It is the first time Lexus has offered hybrid and fully electric variants of the same model built on common underpinnings, a notable step for the brand.

One Platform, Two Powertrains
The multi-pathway platform underpinning all three 2027 Lexus ES variants is an evolution of the previous TNGA-K architecture, adapted to accommodate both a fuel tank and hybrid battery or, in the electric models, a 74.7-kWh floor-mounted lithium-ion pack. The body shell and exterior styling are shared across the range, with only minor details (a front air intake on the hybrid, a charge port on the BEVs) distinguishing one from another at a glance.
That shared design approach keeps the lineup visually coherent while allowing Lexus to serve buyers with different priorities without developing separate vehicles. It is a pragmatic strategy, and one that other premium brands have been moving towards.
Hybrid System and All-Wheel Drive
The Lexus ES 350h carries over the sixth-generation hybrid system introduced on the 2026 model. It pairs a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with a starter-generator and front motor-generator through a CVT, producing a combined 244 horsepower. That is a meaningful step up from the 215 hp of the outgoing ES 300h.
For the first time in Lexus ES hybrid history, all-wheel drive is available. A 54-hp rear e-Axle motor provides on-demand traction, with torque distribution variable between 100:0 and 20:80 front-to-rear depending on conditions. Front-wheel drive remains standard.
Lexus has also worked to make the sixth-generation system quieter. A larger muffler, a flexible exhaust coupler, sound-absorbing material in the air intake, and Active Noise Control through the cabin speakers all target refinement, the kind of detail that matters in a luxury sedan where cabin composure is a core selling point.
Larger Cabin, Updated Technology
The 2027 Lexus ES is dimensionally larger than its predecessor. The wheelbase grows by 3.1 inches, overall length by 6.5 inches, and width by 2.2 inches. Rear legroom increases by 1.4 inches and rear headroom by 0.4 inches — gains that are genuinely useful in a car that frequently serves as a chauffeur’s tool as much as a driver’s one.
Every ES 350h receives a 14.0-inch touchscreen running the latest Lexus Interface and a 12.3-inch digital driver display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, as is a wireless charger. Higher trims add a 17-speaker, 1,800-watt Mark Levinson audio system and Digital Key 2.0 capability.
Safety hardware upgrades to Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 across the board, and over-the-air software updates are supported on a 5G network.
Why It Matters
The ES has long been one of Lexus’s most important volume models, particularly in markets where hybrid powertrains carry strong appeal. Offering hybrid and electric variants on a shared platform gives dealers flexibility and gives buyers a genuine choice without the usual trade-off in design or equipment.
The addition of AWD to the hybrid (something the ES has never offered before) broadens its appeal in colder climates. Whether that is enough to shift the Lexus ES’s image from reliable luxury staple to something more dynamic is another question. But as a well-rounded, technology-forward update to a proven formula, the 2027 ES 350h makes a coherent case for itself.
