Alpine has announced that production of its widely loved petrol powered A110 sportscar is coming to an end. A final production run of 1750 units has been set and will include 50 units of the A110 R 70, with the rest of the allocation split between the A110 and A110 GTS.
The original A110 debuted in 1962, combining the brand’s philosophy of a “lightweight, sporting spirit” with the French quality of “je ne sais quoi”, creating an iconic sportscar that starred on the global stage. It was the first car to win the World Rally Championship in 1973. Then in 2017, the second generation came along to resurrect the ‘A-arrow’ brand, it would go on to earn recognition from drivers, enthusiasts and journalists all across the globe. Praised for its lightweight setup and handling precision, the second gen car will mark nearly 30,000 units sold by the time production ceases later on this year.
With the closing of this one, Alpine turns over to its next chapter, one that has an electric future in it. The A290 and A390 have already debuted under this banner with a third generation fully electric A110 set to be next.
For now though, three versions of the petrol powered sportscar are still available. The entry level A110 earned its place in the hearts of enthusiasts all around the globe while the GTS upped power and aerodynamics for a more focused drive. Then there’s the R 70, commemorating the brand’s 70th anniversary, it is lighter and shaper still, the pinnacle of Alpine’s lightweight performance mantra.
Get in while you still can because the A110 is the last of a dying breed of sportscar, au revoir mon ami!
