It’s rare for a brand-new event to achieve monumental success, but the inaugural Rik Mayall Comedy Festival has done just that, earning a finalist nomination for Best Festival & Event in the Visit Worcestershire Tourism Awards 2025.This powerful debut celebrated the anarchic genius of comedy legend Rik Mayall in his very own hometown.
A Sold-Out Tribute in Droitwich Spa
Held in Droitwich Spa, the week-long festival was a magnet for fans, pulling in a crowd of over 10,000 people from across the UK and beyond between May 31st and June 7th, 2025.The event was a testament to Mayall’s enduring legacy, featuring a stellar lineup that included comedy heavyweights like Greg Davies, Peter Richardson, and Helen Lederer. The immense popularity led to over 75% of the headline shows selling out. The festival transformed the town, with more than 200 events taking place across 30 venues. Offerings ranged from stand-up comedy and workshops to a pop-up museum dedicated to the star. Many key performances were held at the Norbury Theatre, a venue of special significance where a young Rik Mayall first began to hone his craft.
Isuzu UK Helps “Carry the Load”
Headline sponsor Isuzu UK played an integral role in the festival’s success. The ‘Pick-Up Professionals’ provided a fleet of robust Isuzu D-Max pick-ups to help with logistics and “help carry the load.”George Wallis, Isuzu UK’s Head of Marketing, noted the perfect synergy, stating, “There was no fear of the festival Bottom-ing out with the fantastic acts on display.”Beyond the clever nod to Mayall’s work, Isuzu’s involvement resonated on a deeper level. The festival’s atmosphere of connection and reflection on Rik’s impact aligned with Isuzu’s #SideBySide campaign, which promotes men’s mental health and the value of empathy.

More Than Laughs: A Space for Connection
While laughter was the main event, the festival also had a profoundly touching side. A standout feature was the ‘Memories of Rik’ postcards initiative, which collected over 500 handwritten tributes from fans.Attendees shared personal stories of how Mayall’s comedy provided joy and comfort through difficult times, creating a shared space to honor a comedic hero.Festival Director Stuart Panrucker expressed his pride in the event’s outcome. “It has been a privilege to organise the inaugural Rik Mayall Comedy Festival, and we’re absolutely thrilled to be a finalist,” he said, giving credit to the sponsors, volunteers, and committee.
Public Vote to Decide Winner
The winner of the Visit Worcestershire Tourism Award will be decided by a public vote, with the announcement scheduled for March 2026.The nomination alone solidifies the festival’s incredible impact, proving the enduring, brilliant, and utterly bonkers legacy of Rik Mayall.
