BMW NZ increases EV range with new i4 variant

BMW New Zealand will further enhance its local offering of fully electric models with introduction of the new i4 eDrive35 later this year. Launch of the new i4 eDrive35 represents a new entry point to the i4 line-up, which already features the i4 eDrive40 and the dual motor, 400kW i4 M50.

The new i4 also increases the number of electrified variants offered by BMW New Zealand. This year has already seen arrival of the 225e xDrive plug-in hybrid, 750e xDrive and XM and fully electric i7, while the first-ever i5 M60 xDrive is set to arrive in the country later this year.

Underpinned by fifth generation BMW eDrive technology – The new BMW i4 eDrive35 is fitted with the proven fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology that also features in its i4 stablemates as well as a number of other BMW fully electric models such as the iX and i7 flagship sedan.

This drive technology benefits from BMW-developed components such as the electric motors, power electronics, charging technology and high-voltage battery. It ensures an engaging electric driving experience combined with maximum everyday usability courtesy of a long range and short charging times. In addition, this technology is completely committed to sustainability, including the complete removal of rare earths from the production of the electric motors. The high-voltage battery of the BMW i4 comes with an eight-year warranty, combined with a mileage of up to 160,000 kilometres.

Performance and efficiency personified – The power system of the i4 eDrive35 includes a powerful single motor that drives the rear wheels – a classic BMW configuration – and develops 210kW and peak torque of 400Nm. This aids in the new i4 accelerating from zero to 100km/h in only six seconds. A high level of efficiency complements its impressive performance, with driving range capability of 490km on the WLTP cycle. The high voltage battery, which has a net capacity of 66kWh, can be charged at up to 11kW via AC, or at 180kW on a high-speed DC charger. Customers can charge their i4 via multiple options, including ChargeNow – a service from BMW – operated by ChargeNet, the largest provider of public charging stations across New Zealand.

A free ChargeNow membership and card is provided to all owners of BMW fully electric vehicles, with a 10 per cent discount offered on all charging sessions used in the ChargeNow network for the first 24 months.

BMW New Zealand is also in partnership with EV charge point operator JOLT to assist in the the rollout of a free fast charging options across New Zealand. In addition, a complimentary Generation 3 BMW Wallbox is supplied with the purchase of every new fully electric BMW model in New Zealand.
