Positive Motorcycles Prepares Italian-Built Egera Electric Scrambler for Production

Italian start-up Positive Motorcycles has entered a pre-seed funding round to bring its Öhlins-equipped Egera electric bike to market next year, with an unofficial price of just under €10,000 before taxes.

Most new electric motorcycles try to win on price. Italian start-up Positive Motorcycles is betting the opposite way. Its first model, the Egera, uses Italian components and premium hardware, and its likely price reflects that.

The company has now entered a pre-seed funding round after five years of self-funded development. It plans to launch the bike next year, which makes this the most concrete step yet for a project first revealed in 2024.

Positive Motorcycles Prepares Italian-Built Egera Electric Scrambler for Production

One Bike, Three Personalities

The name Egera stands for Electric Generation ERA. The bike blends scrambler, motard and café racer styling, and it is pitched as a road machine that can also handle light off-road use.

The chassis gets proper hardware. Öhlins supplies the 41mm fork and the twin rear shock absorbers, and the bike rolls on 17-inch rims. 3D-printed ABS and carbon fibre parts help keep the weight to 152kg. Seat height is 870mm, which is tall enough that shorter riders will want to try one first.

The rest of the kit covers the expected basics: a 4.3-inch TFT touchscreen, LED lighting, regenerative braking and IP67 water protection.

The Numbers in Context

A liquid-cooled motor produces 40hp and 85Nm of torque. The quoted 0-60mph time is around six seconds, with a top speed of roughly 120km/h. A 7.7kWh battery gives an estimated 140km of range.

Those figures won’t keep superbike owners awake at night, but they make sense for a bike aimed mainly at urban riding. Charging takes about two and a half hours from 20 to 80 per cent on a 220V household socket. That means a home top-up can easily happen overnight or during a working day.

There is one oddity. Testing reportedly pushed the bike to 175km/h, well above the quoted top speed. It is unclear whether that run used production-specification hardware, so the official 120km/h figure is the safer guide for now.

Built in Italy, Priced to Match

The figure being discussed is just under €10,000 before taxes, or around US$11,000. Positive Motorcycles has not confirmed it, but it clearly places the Egera in the premium electric bike segment rather than the budget end.

Much of that cost comes from local sourcing. The company says almost all components are made in Italy. That is unusual in a segment where many electric bikes use rebadged Chinese parts and look much the same as each other.

From Prototype to Production

The hard part starts now. Positive Motorcycles still has to scale up manufacturing, set up a supply chain and build a dealer network before its planned launch. The two years since the reveal show how slowly a small, self-funded team has had to move.

Still, the Egera makes a clear case. An electric motorcycle can carry Italian design and quality suspension without hiding behind a low price. If the funding comes through, buyers will get a proper test of whether that formula works on a 40hp city bike.
