Celebrating 30 Years of the Skoda Octavia

The very first Octavia rolled off the production line on the 3rd of September 1996 and at the time, I’m not sure if Skoda knew exactly what they had just done! The birth of the Octavia signaled a new way forward for the Czech brand and the model would go on to become a mainstay of their lineup, retaining its place even today.

Thirty years, four generations and 7.9m units manufactured, the Octavia is nothing short of a success story

In the thirty years that has since passed, 7.9 million Octavias have been manufactured and that facility at Mlada Boleslav is still its home. Although, Skoda’s history with the Octavia name dates even further back with it first appearing in 1959 and remaining in place until 1971.

Following Skoda’s acquisition by the VW Group, a project to launch an all new Octavia began in 1992. A liftback first arrived in 1996, a Combi (estate) followed in 1998, adding an AWD variant in 1999 before an RS model was unveiled in 2000. The first generation was so successful in fact that some models remained in production until 2010, even though covers came off the second gen in 2004! The third gen model came in its place, produced from 2012 to 2020 before being replaced by the current generation vehicle.

Today, thirty years on from its debut, the evergreen Octavia remains a popular choice for buyers, both private and business alike. Happy thirtieth birthday Octavia!
