Ferrari has unveiled a special one-off livery for its home race at Monza, honouring Michael Schumacher ahead of the 2026 Italian Grand Prix. The tribute arrives at a meaningful moment: this year marks 30 years since Schumacher joined the Scuderia, and 20 years since his final victory with the team.
The choice of venue makes perfect sense: Schumacher won at Monza five times in Ferrari red: 1996, 1998, 2000, 2003, and 2006, making it one of the circuits most closely associated with his time at the team. That 2006 win also came in the same season as his last Ferrari victory, at the Chinese Grand Prix. Five of his seven World Championship titles were claimed with Ferrari, cementing a partnership that remains one of the most celebrated in the sport’s history. The Monza crowd, famously passionate about the Scuderia, provides a fitting backdrop for the occasion.
The tribute unfolded in stages across the week. Ferrari first revealed bespoke race suits for current drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, each featuring Schumacher’s personal logo and the seven stars he carried on his helmet to represent his seven titles. The team then followed up with the full car livery reveal on Tuesday morning, layering the Schumacher inspired details over their standard 2026 design. Ferrari described the tributes as a reflection of Schumacher’s “impact on the racing world” and “his enduring mindset”.
Special liveries have become a familiar part of the modern Formula 1 calendar, but running the tribute at Monza, where Schumacher’s record is even more significant, makes it even more important, including for the current drivers, namely Hamilton, who won his own titles before joining the Scuderia and now races under the shadow of a legend who defined the team’s most dominant era.
