It’s official, Toyota will join Volvo Group and Daimler Truck as equal shareholders/partners in cellcentric. The joint goal is to develop and manufacture hydrogen fuel cell systems for “heavy-duty commercial applications.”
Following completion of the agreement in late 2026/early 2027, Toyota Motor Corporation will become equal partners and shareholders with the two existing brands, a move that will strengthen cellcentric’s technological abilities. The brand is looking at improvements across the hydrogen network, including transport and infrastructure to “unlock the hydrogen ecosystem.”
Nothing changes for cellcentric which will continue to operate independently from the three brands, serving customers across the commercial space. Similarly, Toyota, Volvo Group and Daimler Truck will also continue to operate independently of each other. Founded in 2021 and employing 560 staff across Germany and Canada, cellcentric’s clientele includes buses, power generators, marine, rail and other heavy-duty equipment makers.
