BMW have announced that their three millionth electrified vehicle has officially left their facility in Munich. The car in question is a BMW 330e Touring in Portimao Blue, exquisitely specified and destined for the UK market. Last year alone, the brand noted that one in four vehicles sold was either pure electric or a plug-in hybrid!
BMW’s electrification journey began back in 2013 with the launch of the i3. Manufactured in Leipzig for nearly 10 years, the car set the scene for the i8, BMW’s first plug-in hybrid. However, things have changed massively since then. The brand now build electric cars across all of their plants rather than at one specific facility, a move that has paid rewards for the Bavarian manufacturer who has seen success in integrating all of its powertrains across all of its production facilities.
Across BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce, there have been more than 1.5 million pure EVs delivered thus far with the brand’s facility in Spartanburg in the United States being next on the list to prepare for production of electrified vehicles. San Luis Potosi in Mexico will follow that, being able to manufacture the Neue Klasse when it releases in 2027. Additionally, BMW also produce electrified vehicles in Brazil, India and Thailand already.
