At 6 minutes 56 seconds and 294 milliseconds (6:56.294), the Porsche 911 GT3 is now the record holder for the fastest manual production car to go around the Nurburgring. In achieving the feat, Porsche say they “beat the previous record, held by a competitor with a significantly more powerful engine, by more than 9.5 seconds.”
Thanks to the amazing progress made by Porsche on the latest generation car, the manual Weissach package GT3 was 3.633 seconds faster than its previous generation namesake which also sported a PDK dual clutch gearbox! The brand say that manual transmissions have seen a resurgence of sorts among their customers with an increasing percentage opting for the combination.
Porsche also say their customers often ask how fast a manual 911 GT3 would go around the Nurburgring, which presumably was the argument presented to the accounts department when justifying this pursuit. Either way, it is a question to which they now have an answer!
Track conditions on the day were sunny with an ambient temperature of 12 degrees and a track temperature of 27 degrees. The car in question used road legal Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 R tyres and Porsche would like to make it known that they completed the full 20.832 kilometres of the track while their competitor who previously held the record, completed a lap of the shortened track, covering 20.6 kilometres instead.
