Londoners could now have their next hospital trip in the back of a fully electric ambulance! The London Ambulance Service has introduced a fleet of Ford E-Transit vehicles to its emergency services lineup, working with the Ford Pro Special Vehicles team. There’s no change to the rapid response service as compared to diesel powered vehicles but now with zero emissions!
As part of its ‘Carbon Neutral Plan’, the London Ambulance Service is targeting a net zero emissions goal by 2040. Following one year of a trial, the results are a 75% fuel saving as compared to the diesel powered ambulances. Ford Pro spent two back to back shifts with paramedics around London to see the E-Transit in action in one of the world’s busiest cities. The goal was to see the kind of action experienced by a service ambulance and gauge its toll on the battery and electric motor. The result was a positive one from the team of paramedics!
