And the 2025 European Car of the Year Award goes to… Yes, it’s the Renault 5! A title held by the French brand for two years running now with 2024’s winner being the Scenic E-Tech. With this victory, the 5 becomes the eighth Renault vehicle to have been awarded this prestigious accolade.
Announced earlier this month at the Brussels Motor Show, the award recognizes Renault’s electrification strategy and the quality of its new vehicle as part of the Renaulution plan.
Renault entered the competition alongside its sister brand Alpine who entered with the A290 which also shared in the spoils. The join entry was named alongside six other finalists which included the Alfa Romeo Junior, Citroen C3/e-C3, Cupra Terramar, Dacia Duster, Hyundai Inster and Kia EV3.
60 motoring journalists from 23 participating countries then decided on a winner from the shortlist. The assessment was based on several different categories with the Renault 5 and Alpine A290 emerging first with 353 points overall.
As mentioned before, Renault is no stranger to the European Car of the Year title, having won it seven times before. Previous winners were the Renault 16 )1966), Renault 9 (1982), Clio 1 (1991), Scenic (1997), Megane (2003), Clio 3 (2006) and Scenic E-Tech just last year.
The entry level Renault 5 will launch in 2025 at 25,000 Euros and will be built in northern France.
