Mazda has unveiled its all-new Mazda6e, a sleek and stylish five-door hatchback electric vehicle (BEV), at the Brussels Motor Show, signifying a bold new direction for the brand’s European EV lineup. The Mazda6e is designed as an evolution of the well-regarded internal combustion engine-powered Mazda6, which remained a customer favorite in Europe and the UK from 2002 to 2023.

The Mazda6e stands out with two powertrain options, built around a 68.8kWh or 80kWh battery. The 68.8kWh version offers up to 300 miles of range, rapid charging from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes, and a 0-62 mph performance of 7.6 seconds with an electric motor producing 258ps. For those seeking greater range, the 80kWh version delivers up to 345 miles, charging from 10% to 80% in 45 minutes, a slightly slower 7.8-second 0-62 mph time, and 244ps. Both models feature a rear-wheel-drive layout and 320Nm of torque.

The design philosophy, “Electrifying Design Crafted to Perfection,” brings Mazda’s signature Kodo Soul of Motion aesthetic into a new electrified era. The Mazda6e boasts frameless doors, integrated handles, and a glowing front grille with signature lighting that indicates the vehicle’s charge status. Its low roofline, coupe-inspired shape, 19-inch aerodynamic wheels, and extendable rear spoiler provide a sporty yet functional look.

Inside, the Mazda6e showcases simplicity and space inspired by the Japanese concept of ‘Ma.’ The interior features a panoramic roof that floods the cabin with natural light, a floating center console, and premium materials, with trim options including artificial leather or Nappa leather depending on the Takumi or Takumi Plus specifications. A 14.6-inch touchscreen, a 10.2-inch instrument cluster, and an augmented reality head-up display add cutting-edge technology to its driver-focused design.

Mazda’s Managing Director, Jeremy Thomson, emphasised that the Mazda6e embodies the brand’s commitment to combining design, technology, and style in EVs. He also highlighted the importance of tuning the suspension, braking, and steering to meet European preferences, ensuring a dynamic driving experience that remains faithful to Mazda’s hallmark characteristics.

Bringing practicality alongside style, the Mazda6e offers a 330-litre rear boot, a 70-litre front boot (frunk), and ample passenger space. Overall, the Mazda6e represents a significant chapter in Mazda’s multi-solution electrification strategy, which includes hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and EVs, matching evolving consumer demands across European markets.

With its blend of innovative design, advanced electric technology, and a focus on the driving experience, the Mazda6e sets a strong precedent for Mazda’s fully electric future. Its arrival promises to fortify the company’s EV ambitions while continuing to prioritise a seamless fusion of functionality and elegance.
