A partnership that began in 1950 when Ford fitted the ‘Police Package’ to their Custom sedan, the upgrades included a flathead V8. Now, Ford celebrate 75 years of serving America’s law enforcement in 2025.
However, as you will see from the photo below, Ford’s support of law enforcement can trace its roots even further back than 1950, much further back in fact!

Through the years, the portfolio of service vehicles available has grown with cars like the Bronco Special Purpose, Mustang Patrol, Police Interceptor Sedan and Police Interceptor Hybrid AWD all joining the fleet. The latter of which remains the only pursuit-rated hybrid police utility vehicle.
And who can forget the legendary Crown Victoria sedan, arguably the most iconic of all Ford police vehicles to have patrolled the streets and silver screen.

The lineup continues from there with the F-150 Police Responder being the first pursuit-rated pickup, the F-150 Lightning Pro SSV being the first bespoke electric pickup for patrolling. There was the Transit Prisoner Transport Vehicle and then the Mustang Mach E which has passed testing with Michigan and LA’s respective law enforcement departments.
Safety technology for police vehicles has also improved greatly over the years with Ford implementing 75mph rear crash crumple zones for police vehicles as well as ballistic panels to reinforce the doors.

To celebrate 75 years of police partnership, Ford have opened service orders for the new Expedition SSV. Available to support police, fire departments and other government agencies, the purpose built vehicle features new tech, towing abilities and the robustness needed for the job.
